How you can help make boiler scrappage happen

Once you have signed the petition on the Downing Street site, there are lots of other ways you can help the Reheat Britain campaign succeed.

Ask your friends to sign

Facebook - become a fan Become a fan of the campaign on Facebook, then use the link below the logo to 'suggest to friends'.

This is a really effective way to spread the word.

Other networks, such as email lists, local newsletters, and plain old word-of-mouth are also very good for signing up new supporters.

Write to your MP

big ben at nightDevon MP Richard Younger-Ross has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament to urge the government to support the campaign and bring in boiler scrappage as soon as possible.

Dozens of MPs have already signed up, but we need more.

MPs really do listen to the views of their own constituents, and a letter from a local resident can be a powerful influence on them.

Your letter doesn't need to be complicated. Simply say why you support the scheme and urge them to sign EDM 2076.

It only takes a few minutes to find and send a letter to your MP via www.writetothem.com.

MPs already signed up to the EDM:

In just the first two days after the motion was tabled, 29 MPs signed up from a wide range of parties, and now 56 are on the list. We'll keep this updated so you can see if your MP has already signed.

If they have signed, why not write to them anyway and thank them?

northenr ireland flagNEW: Petition to the Northern Ireland Assembly

Click on the map to find out how to push for boiler scrappage in Northern Ireland - the only place in the UK set to miss out!

DO YOU LIVE IN NORTHERN IRELAND?

The scheme announced in the Pre-Budget Report will only apply in England, but the Welsh and Scottish governments have now added their own schemes.

More money has been made available to all the devolved governments for energy efficiency, it's up to them what schemes they spend it on.

Help us to make sure everyone benefits from boiler scrappage by clicking on the link above!

Write to your local paper

A simple letter to your local paper is also a great way to drum up more signatures for the petition.

A few lines about the benefits of boiler scrappage, including the web address of Reheat Britain, are very likely to be published because papers prefer short letters.

You can send your letter by email, but don't forget to include your name and your full address, which won't be published but which the editor does need to see.

ARE YOU A PLUMBER OR MERCHANT?

You can help the campaign even more with a personal letter to your local paper's letters page.

Your personal experience of the downturn,  expert knowledge of the benefits to householders, and enthusiasm for the scheme can help inspire others to join us.

And if you advertise in the paper, why not add a line about the campaign to the bottom of your regular advert?

This can help reach thousands more members of the public, and show that your business cares about the environment and their heating bills.
